Samuel Eto'o Fils (French pronunciation: [samɥɛl eto fis]) (born 10 March 1981) is a Cameroonian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Russian team Anji Makhachkala. He is also the current captain of the Cameroon national team.
Samuel Eto`o was born on 10th of March, 1981 in Nkon (Cameroon).
Scouts of Real Madrid got interested in Cameroonian footballer when he was still a teenager. Samuel Eto'o joined Real Madrid in 1997 but later on was loaned to Leganés as he was too young. After making 28 appearances for the club and only scoring three goals, he returned to Madrid following the end of the 1998–99 season.
In January 1999, he was loaned out to Espanyol but failed to make any appearances for the club.
Having returned to Madrid Samuel played three matches of Champions League. The next season he was transferred to Mallorca on loan, scoring six goals in 9 games. Islanders were impressed by the play of a Cameroonian and bought part of rights over the player while another part was still owned by Real.
Samuel participated in three games of World Championship-2012 and scored victorious goal in match vs. Saudi Arabia.
At his play for Mallorca Eto`o proved to be one of the best strikers as he scored his hat-trick in match vs. FC Recreativo (3:0) in the Spanish Cup final-2003.
In 2003/04 Eto`o made hat-trick in match vs. Hapoel while Mallorca reached 4th round of UEFA Cup. The footballer scored 17 goals in one season, thus obtaining 54 goals with 133 matches played during 4,5 years. In May 2004 Samuel got the title of African top-scorer of season. In August 2004 the Cameroonian signed for FC Barcelona for a transfer fee of 24 million Euros.
Samuel at once became one of the top stars of Catalan club. For five years of the career in club he played 145 matches in the Spanish Championship and scored 108 goals. With this achievement Eto'o is the third top-scorer of club — after Sesar (195 goals), Ladislao Kubala (131 goal), but Samuel achieved this result in less time.
Eto’о scored goals in two of three Champions League finals in which he participated (in matches vs. Arsenal, 2006 and vs. Manchester United, 2009).
Samuel Eto'o became the champion of Spain three times playing for Barcelona, twice — the winner of Spanish Cup and Super Cup and also two times won the Champions League title.
In the end of July 2009 Massimo Moratti and Joan Laporta carried on long negotiations on transfer of Zlatan Ibrahimovic instead of Samuel Eto'o. As a result Eto'o signed five-year contract with Inter, and Ibrahimovic transferred joined the Catalans, Barcelona had to pay 46 million Euros in addition.
During his first season in Inter, Samuel scored club hat-trick, having won Italian Championship, the Italian Cup and Champions League, thus the Cameroonian played in the first team in position of a left winger.
Thanks to success of his two last teams, Eto'o made unique achievement, having gained three victories in UEFA Champions League (vs. Barcelona, 2006, 2009 and vs. Inter, 2010), four victories in the championships (three in Spain with vs. Barcelona and one vs. Inter in Italy) and two victories in national cups against two different clubs.
On August, 21st 2010 the double of Eto'o brought Inter a victory over Roma in Italian Super Cup (game ended with a score 3:1).
On December 19th 2010 Eto'o broke a record of Pedro and became the first football player on a planet, who scored in seven tournaments during one season. The Cameroonian scored in the Russian Championship, the Cup and Super cup of country, Champions League, in the World Championship held in SA, African Cup of nations and the club World Championship.
In August 2011, Anji Makhachkala reached an agreement with Internazionale to sign Eto'o in a three-year deal.
