With a terribly short preparation period in the background, home-field advantage seemed to be a trump card of the “eagles” in a starting match against “Krylia Sovetov”. During the pre-game national anthem’s rendition yellow-green torcida unfurled a huge banner on the stands depicting Terminator with a comment on it: “We are back…”
It was just on paper that “Anji’s” chances seemed to be more preferable in a duel against other “returnees”. Evidently our squad has not yet gained full power and sufficient playing interaction. On the other hand, Samara side has hardly been altered during preseason, and that occasion could make a difference in a starting round particularly. Hard to say, whether that factor resulted finally. Makhachkala side outplayed the opponent for the most part, regarding basically playing commitment and number of goal chances created. Samara’s team set against just superb keeper’s performing, rare luck and hundred per cent conversion rate.
Meanwhile the final score became the result of the recurrence of long-revealed weak spots of our squad. Again let in a set piece goal: a corner cross, scramble and a ball finally comes by goal area line to “Anji’s” ex-player Georgy Gabulov who mercifully sends it to the net. Again failed to level when had conceded first. Again did not score abundant goal chances. Abundant enough for a confident win. In order to illustrate the scale of advantage of Makhachkala side it is enough to say “Anji” players kicked the woodwork for three times. In the first half Leonardo got the crossbar from a killing position. In the second one each Samara’s posts were challenged from long and middle distance by Haruna, who had asserted himself as a head “gunner” with his netbusters. Ilya Maximov and multiply Yannick Boli created but failed to convert goal chances.
Had there been a more prolific score for Makhachkala side with the same content, home supporters would be much likely to evaluate “Anji” starting game as “excellent” or “very good”. However, there are full time score and regret about lost points on the agenda.
